Both bakers used Styrofoam instead of cake Big Apple Charm the cakes were made more than two weeks before they were to be displayed at the craft show. Even the frosting may not be that delicious. "If you were desperate, you could eat them," Snowflake Charms said of the gum paste balls decorating his cake. "It's more of a decoration. It's technically edible, but not something you want to be having with lunch." While the cakes may not serve as a good dessert, they have a place at the art show. "The cakes are going to be a big deal," Shittu predicted. "Because of the Bee Charm shows and all that stuff, everybody is fascinated with cakes." Diamond said that bakers like Bezares and Shittu are artists like those in the craft show and their work expands the menu of what the Gingerbread Man offers. "We really wanted to start introducing more creative disciplines into our show," Diamond said. "It's culinary arts."Kennewick Sketches of two suspects involved in a brazen home-invasion and jewelry store robbery were released today by Kennewick police. Detectives have been trying to identify the three masked gunmen since Feb. 9 when they went to the home of Touchstone Jeweler owner Mark Welsh and tied up his family. They then forced Welsh to take them to his closed store, where they stole jewelry and other merchandise. No one was injured.
Last week, Jason Dale Bailey, Pandora Silver/Gold Bead on sale, was named as a "person of interest" who investigators want to question about the burglaries. Bailey's whereabouts are unknown. On Tuesday afternoon, detectives began bringing in people who had their homes burglarized to identify items. The items where recovered from several different locations, according to Pandora Gold Bead on sale, the police department's public information officer. "There are over 800 items from various locations," Cosgrove said as victims viewed table after table of items at the police department. "We made some recoveries as late as (Monday) night," Cosgrove said. Victims had positively identified some of their belongings from the items recovered, Cosgrove said. Pandora Silver Bead on sale was asked by detectives to inspect the recovered items. Wilson said her home was burglarized two weeks ago. "I had jewelry stolen, and my son's watches and a digital camera," Pandora Silver/Gold Bead on sale said. "When I made a list at my home and went over the prices, it was over $3,000." Wilson said she was angered by the burglary. "It was stuff I had put back to give to my kids. ... It wasn't stuff I wore very often, but it was stuff I cherished." "There is one handgun," Cosgrove said of the recovered items. "There are tools and a car stereo. Most of it is jewelry, 90 percent of it." The sheriff's department is investigating 40 burglaries, and the police department is investigating four burglaries similar to the ones in the county.

Sears Holdings Corp.'s fourth-quarter earnings fell Replica Chanel Watches as declining sales at its namesake stores continued to more than offset growth at its Kmart chain. For the quarter ended Jan. 29, Sears reported a profit of Replica Rolex Watches a share, down from $430 million, or $3.74 a share, a year earlier. Excluding restructuring-related charges and other items, earnings were down at Replica Ulysse Nardin Watches. The company in January expected $3.39 to $4.12 a share, ahead of estimates at the time. Revenue decreased Discount Richard Mille on fewer stores, though the figure beat analysts' expectations. The retailer's results have been mixed lately. Sears Holdings has cut costs, but in addition to losing share to rivals, same-store sales have declined as consumers have been spending less on appliances and tools amid a weak housing market, as well as other big-ticket items such as electronics. In the latest quarter, domestic same-store sales dropped 1.2% overall, including 4.5% at Sears in the U.S. and 2.5% growth at Kmart. Sears on Wednesday chose a new chief executive after a three-year search--Lou D'Ambrosio, a long-time technology executive who had been consulting with the company. The growth at Kmart was driven by increases in most categories, particularly apparel, footwear, jewelry, sporting goods and toys, partially offset by declines in the food and consumables and pharmacy groups.
"This is just another burden for folks." Discount IWC jewelers and boat owners, automobile dealers said the proposed luxury tax on vehicles over $50,000 would hurt their business, too. Mary Ellen Hadelman, the owner of family-owned Chase Parkway Volvo and Subaru, said that Malloy's proposed luxury tax would lead to layoffs at dealerships in the state, which currently employ 12,500 workers at an average salary of Discount Jacob&Co each. "It's not well thought-out," Hadelman said. "It's very short-sighted." Jeff Aiosa, owner of the Carriage House luxury car dealership in New London, said that the car dealers provide Discount Jaeger leCoultre in annual new car sales and 13 percent of the total retail sales statewide. The luxury tax, he said, would harm the sales of an important industry in the state. Tim Phelan, chief of the Connecticut Retail Merchants Association, said he was unaware of any other state that has a similar luxury tax as the one that Discount Montblanc was proposing. The surcharge would extend to items of clothing, such as a suit costing more than $1,000. Lawmakers, though, focused more on the automobile, yacht, and jewelry proposals during a public hearing that started at 10:30 a.m. and adjourned about 7:30 p.m. Monday. Through the day, speakers testified against any number of proposed tax increases. No one spoke specifically in favor of the luxury tax, although two union representatives -- Brian Anderson of AFSCME, Council 4, and Paul Filson of the Service Employees International Union -- when talking about the personal income tax, said the rich have had their tax rates cut at times through the years at the state and federal levels.
The state's sales tax would also be charged on haircuts, yoga studios, pet grooming, Silver Beads Charms on sale car washes, among other services. At the retail level, the 6 percent sales tax would increase to 6.35 percent. But the luxury taxes seemed to capture much of the attention during a nine-hour hearing as car dealers, boat owners and jewelry sellers drove to Hartford to make their voices heard. John Green, president and chief executive officer of Silver/Gold Beads Charms on sale, predicted that his jewelry company would lose five to seven jobs because the ripple effect would extend beyond the additional 3 percent surcharge on jewelry items over $5,000. Customers, he said, would also avoid the store for items under that threshold and could potentially buy from stores as far away as Pandora Gold Bead on sale, which would ship items to Connecticut. "Our customers will go elsewhere" for items above and below $5,000, Green said. "They just won't go into our stores." Pandora Silver Bead on sale, a fiscally conservative Greenwich Republican, agreed with Green that the proposal would backfire. "Luxury taxes, in my research," Frantz said, "100 percent of the time have failed." Numerous speakers cited the federal luxury tax that was imposed in 1991 on yachts by President George H. W. Bush. Yacht sales plummeted, which opponents said was directly attributable to the tax, while others said it was more attributable to the deep recession at the time.
